Fascinating. Its been years since I read Musk’s biography by Ashlee Vance. I totally agree that Tesla should pivot into the luxury car market. Several reasons:
- The prices in that space are ridiculous. Elon could move the industry forward by showing everyone what’s technically possible in the $500,000 - $1,000,000 range.
- Profit!
- The ability to keep on making the design engineers happy without raking other employees over the coals over Model 3 numbers.
He should have let VW and Toyota deal with scale. The half a million dollar electric space is wide open, and his personality and vision would be a welcome entrant into that space.
